Legal Department Description
 
The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.
 
Description of the Role
The JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. - Philippine Global Service Center (PGSC) legal team is looking to recruit a lawyer to join the team.  The role is based in Manila and will report to head of Legal for the PGSC.
 
Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice with respect to specifics in local employment, contract, data protection, and other laws related to offshoring and the continued operations of the PGSC;
  • provide legal services to various lines of business and support groups entering into agreements and contracts with third party vendors and entities, including drafting, review, and assisting in negotiating with counterparties;
  • manage all litigation for the PGSC, including working with external counsel in the handling of cases and mitigation of litigation exposure;
  • work closely with Compliance on all regulatory and licensing matters for the PGSC;
  • keep abreast of, and review and analysis of new regulations, coordinate legal responses and consider downstream legal implications (including contractual and policy requirements);
  • continually review, amend or propose changes to contract templates (across all Lines of Business documentation) as a result of regulatory or policy changes (including those introduced at a global level); 
  • act as POC for responsibilities pertaining to the Office of Legal Obligations Program, including identifying and maintaining relevant and material legal obligations applicable to the PGSC; and 
  • act as legal approver for all migrations to the PGSC, including drafting and review of inter-entity Service Agreements between PGSC and receptor and donor entities.
Additional Responsibilities:
 
  • work closely with key control partners and stakeholders internally within PGSC, and support firm-wide control projects, and represent Legal in risk and management committees;
  • provide ad hoc advice to internal clients on all local legal matters;
  • mitigate and reduce exposure to PGSC by ensuring legal processes, work practices and policies are appropriate in current operating environment;
  • manage outside counsel for all engagements involving the PGSC, including ensuring compliance with internal policies on outside counsel engagements in the Philippines;
  • coordinating global legal projects with regional and global Legal teams; and
  • represent PGSC in various industry groups and forums.
  • 4-5 years legal experience as a qualified attorney in a banking/financial institution, international business process outsourcing outfit in the Philippines or top tier legal firm;
  • broad corporate commercial and banking legal experience; including dealing with cross-border and international projects;
  • excellent drafting skills;
  • strong analytical and communication skills;
  • independent, self-motivated, able to prioritize and able to work under tight deadlines; and
  • able to demonstrate and provide commitment for a long term career at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
