Job Description:

The Currencies and Emerging Markets (CEM) business has experienced a spectacular growth over the last 7 years both in America and in EMEA. This growth has been made possible thanks to a good balance between product innovation and successful risk management. In the EMEA Region,  CEM is a market maker in the following product lines: EMEA EM Bonds, EMEA EM Interest Rate Derivatives & FX Forwards, EMEA FX Spot Trading (EM and G10), Exotics and Hybrids (Rates and Credit structures), and Global FX Options; offering diverse exposure across the fixed income product range.


Job Description


The Controller will be required to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial statements for the business, and will be responsible for submission of quarterly regulatory reporting for consolidation to the Corporate and Investment Bank.  There will be scope to look at the wider Currencies and Emerging Markets business. He/she will report to a Vice President.


Description of Role

  • Sign-off on financial results for the business at month end, ensure financial statement integrity and adherence to regulatory and disclosure requirements
  • Understand and review the balance sheet and comment on key drivers, comparatives and significant trends
  • Meet corporate regulatory reporting requirements for the business (such as FVO& FVM reporting)
  • Meet regulatory risk reporting requirements for the business (RWA calculation in accordance with Basel I and Basel III)
  • Implement new accounting policies; provide guidance on accounting for products, liaising with Accounting Policy group where appropriate and ensuring compliance with Corporate Regulatory requirements
  • Manage business expectations with regards to developments in regulatory environment, i.e. changes to the Capital framework, the impact of Risk Weighted Assets, etc.
  • Support requirements for standard business performance information from P&A and LEC, including the review of monthly financial performance reports for the business and Legal Entity reporting.
  • Work with the business as advisory on new deals; coordinate effort and contribute to Complex Deal Reviews and New Business Initiative Approval (NBIA)


The candidate

  • Strong understanding of accounting and/or regulatory principles
  • Expertise in FX Options
  • Experience in Product Control or Financial Control preferred
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/CPA) or CFA or studying for such preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Good communication and relationship management
  • Ability to operate in a pressured environment
  • Highly motivated individual
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Strong Excel skills. Access would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of JPM financial systems while not essential would be of significant benefit in this role
