The Team


Beta Strategies Middle Office provide bespoke operational solutions to support the ETF and Passive (Index Tracker) products, which are expected to continually grow during 2018.  The remit will expand to include support Quantative Beta Strategies (QBS), which can hold both physical and synthetic positions (and multiple asset classes).  Additionally the team contributes to many firm wide projects such as MIFID and EMIR, with a strong focus on designing and delivering new and innovative operational solutions.

The Role


The nature of the role is as a Business Analyst, primarily being the point person for QBS Portfolio Managers.  This will require sound technical knowledge of the operational support functions as well as the products such as ETF’s, Passive Funds & CFD’s and has the ability to devise and document innovative operating solutions.  The candidate will effectively communicate solutions to new products (not exclusive to QBS) and is expected to reexamine existing processes, seeking enhancements to minimize operational risk and ensuring adequate controls are in place. 


This role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with Portfolio Managers, Global Operational Teams (Internally and externally) and Technology. There are likely to be many stringent operational requirements to ensure errors are avoided. 


The candidate must also have knowledge of Prime Brokerage practices including synthetics and be able to find ways to improve and streamline the current support for those products. There are significant changes underway in the regulatory environment and the candidate will drive the necessary operational changes to meet the challenges faced. 


The nature of the role requires a range of technical skills as well as project management, organisational and problem solving skills.  Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Providing operational support for QBS including Exchange Traded Funds, Beta products and Prime Brokerage, across a number of different strategies and account models
  • Support creation/redemption (primary market) activity for ETFs
  • Oversight of other Middle Office and Core Operational functions/relationships and day to day interactions
  • Working on a proactive basis to ensure the Portfolio Managers accounts are accurate, seeking to minimize errors (including tracking errors)
  • Resolving queries received from Portfolio Managers, Fund Accountants, Risk, CIB, and other core areas of JPMAM, as well as those from External Stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Management and maintenance of  a number of key relationships
  • Efficiently manage any new projects (i.e. maintaining quality control of end to end operating model) and/or new mandates – including project timelines, communications to management, identifying risks and issues, project plans, documenting process flows and operating models and testing



Required Experience

  • Asset Management Middle Office or Operational function experience
  • Strong understanding of ETFs and Index Tracking products
  • Good understanding of Asset Management Operations or similar
  • Previous experience with Prime Brokerage advantageous
  • Ability to understand and solution new ideas
