We are heading into a new era of software engineering where principles that many of us had assumed as the norm, are no longer relevant. The onset of instantaneous infrastructure provisioning, elastic scalability, increased cyber threats and defense capabilities, true continuous integration and deployment have changed the landscape completely. These changes have also seen the emergence of micro-services as a viable model for software design and development. This opens up great opportunities for the firm in terms of increased: agility; resiliency; re-use and infrastructure efficiency to name but a few.  However, these benefits will only be achieved through a thoughtful approach towards design.

 

Data Network Architecture (DNA)

DNA is a strategic set of technologies and supporting processes that look to solve the challenge of how we capture, maintain and leverage Data Lineage across JPMC. The goal of understanding how data is used and moves throughout the enterprise represents an exciting technical challenge and the opportunity to work alongside world class thought leaders and change managers in the data management and architecture organizations.

 

Domain Driven Design

Domain driven design aims to help development teams’ deal with complexity at the heart of their projects, the domain itself and associated domain logic on the basis that that complex domain designs should be based on a model. We appreciate this this model needs to pervade every medium of communication; we aim to provide solutions for development teams maintain APIs that reflect this domain model through the balanced use of automated model testing, for example BDD and the appropriate automatic generation of physical interfaces.

 

About Our Team
We’re a co-located application development team based in Glasgow with a track record of delivering cloud based, micro-services with specific experience of solving challenging network analysis problems (e.g. Lineage) using graph technologies. Our experience includes leveraging a micro-services architecture to implement a scalable graph analytics platform. As part of the Engineering and Architecture team, we engage with other software development teams to provide tools supporting a data centric approach to software development, founded on the values of Domain Driven Design. 
 
To minimize the time we spend operating the solution, we highly value making sure our solution components are cohesive and loosely coupled, our software delivery pipeline is automated, our software is well tested, our monitoring and alerting is concise.
 
Our day to day responsibilities include the ownership of the full software delivery life-cycle for a number of new and existing solution modules, including:
  • Planning and estimation (Agile). Working with SMEs to prepare stories for development.
  • Software Design and Development
  • Automated functional and regression testing
  • Continuous integration and delivery implementation
  • Release management and execution
  • Production monitoring and logging implementation and maintenance
  • Maintenance of analytics jobs and the supporting ETL processes
  • General platform support and maintenance
 
About You
Anyone can make something work, if your passionate about making things work well we’d like to hear from you.
 
You will be in consideration if you have object orientated and/or functional programming skills, interested or have experience in data analysis, analytics (including big data) or modeling and can use the tooling familiar to modern software development (we use Java, Python, JIRA, GIT, Jenkins Pipeline, Cloud Foundry, SpringBoot).
