Legal Organization - Legal is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation, and also includes the Office of the Secretary. The group consists of approximately 2,000 employees globally and has an internal operating expense budget of ~$600M, as well as oversight of the external vendor spend budget.

Business Structure - Legal is organized by Practice Groups that conform to the firm's lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure provides the means for Legal to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the business lines, and for the business lines to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to Legal in a timely manner.

Position Summary – The Legal Finance and Business management team optimizes the functions performance by helping to drive key initiatives and partnering with teams in Legal, Finance, and Technology to provide transparency and controls around the processes for Reserves, Settlements and Operational Risk. The team is seeking a high performing Analyst to support data collection, data aggregation, financial analysis, and reporting in support of key Litigation Reserves and Operational Risk processes. The individual will also be responsible for advanced metrics and will support the projects in Operational Risk team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support for the timely completion of quarterly legal loss reports for legal senior management, Audit Committee, CEO, CFO, Controllers and Investor Relations. 
  • Partner with litigation management team to prepare a quarterly report that calculates off-balance sheet legal loss exposure to the firm.  Results are disclosed in SEC 10Q/K filings.
  • Support the team for day to day reserves process
  • Review and analyze key litigation matter data (e.g., reserves, settlements, exposure, operational risk event type) and provide commentary for primary drivers and variances to senior management
  • Partner with Technology on application enhancements
  • Proactively review existing processes and look for opportunities for process improvement
  • Responsible for advanced metrics and support the team for the Firm wide Operational Risk projects
  • Engage in special projects as needed such as Passport implementation for Litigation Reserves module and Firm wide Operational Risk projects

  • 4+ years of experience in finance, accounting and/ or business management
  • Advanced analytical skills, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Highly organized, extremely detail and control orientated
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues, desire to learn quickly, and be flexible
  • Ability to handle numerous deliverables simultaneously, many with critical deadlines. Candidate must be comfortable with frequently changing priorities, and must maintain composure in a fast-paced environment and prioritize projects accordingly
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels
  • Knowledge of financial systems - SAP and Essbase
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting / Finance preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Access or Business Objects preferred
