The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas.  This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff 

A documentation specialist is needed to support J.P. Morgan’s traditional investment banking (“IB”) business in the Americas.  Businesses supported include equity capital markets, debt capital markets and M&A.  The documentation specialist in this position will be primarily responsible for reviewing and negotiating confidentiality agreements between J.P. Morgan and investment banking clients, with oversight from lawyers in the Legal Department, as well as additional ancillary agreements such as non-reliance letters and similar agreements requested by clients or third parties in connection with services provided to IB clients.  This documentation specialist will also handle various knowledge management and other projects to support the internal legal team, as needed, and may also assist IB bankers and internal lawyers in responding to “request for proposal” documents received from clients regarding potential IB services.  The documentation specialist will be supervised by a team of internal lawyers and will also interact with product and coverage bankers, compliance partners, the conflicts office and external counsels.


The successful candidate should have an undergraduate degree and ideally will have 2+ years of experience working as a paralegal in a large corporate law firm or equivalent in-house position at a financial services firm.  The successful candidate should also have the following personal attributes:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong drafting skills;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Ability to learn about and understand sophisticated financial transactions and products and to navigate often complex legal, business and conflicts issues;
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients and with all levels of an organization both internally and externally;
  • Ability to work independently and multitask successfully in a demanding, fast-paced transactional environment.’
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
