Balance Sheet Controller – Prime Financing (London/ Analyst)
The Prime Financing business offers flexible financing to clients in either physical form or through synthetic products and with its ability to borrow and lend securities (stock loan) also allows clients to create short exposure. The business offers a range of products to its clients including; clearance and settlement of securities (both equity and fixed income), margin financing and securities lending.
Introduction: The Capital, Balance Sheet, & Liquidity Team sits within the Controllers organisation, itself a part of CIB Finance & Business Management, and is responsible for supporting the reporting, efficient management of, and explain of regulatory and balance sheet across the business and other F&BM stakeholders. The team has evolved in response to heightened sensitivity and requirement for a fortress balance sheet, robust financial performance measures, e.g. Tier 1 Capital Ratio, Leverage Ratio, Return On Equity, etc.., as well as the efficient management of regulatory capital and liquidity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Monitor daily spot B/S movements and seek commentary where there have been any material movements.
Consolidate weekly and monthly balance sheet commentaries for various stakeholders.
Investigation and explain of business drivers underpinning significant financial movements across the balance sheet and funding for LoBs, Senior Management, CIB Treasury, LECs, Corporate Reporting and Others. Oversee timely and fastidious commentary requirement on all items under remit.
Responsibility for balance sheet forecasting and ensure accurate forecasts are submitted in a timely manner and properly syndicated and understood through the business review, which will be presented to the Front Office and CIBT.
Participate fully in the balance sheet mid-year forecast and planning cycles.
Understand the Prime Financing balance sheet, and ensure it is in adherence to regulatory, GAAP, and financial disclosure requirements.
Identify best practices across Prime Financing to establish best in class and ensure accuracy of JPM external reporting and internal MIS that drives internal charges.
Maintaining a reporting framework that will support the Prime Financing business view as well as meeting individual sub-LOBs business needs.
Ensure LoB is in compliance with all CIB and Corporate Policies such as Balance Sheet and Product Control Standards, ensuring controls are documented and transparent.
Work with members of the capital and liquidity sub-teams to provide updates on the balance sheet and any material movements, and act as a conduit between the teams located in New York with the EMEA & APAC Front Office.
Training/Knowledge share across balance sheet, capital, & liquidity sub-teams, and identify areas for synergies and efficiencies.
Represent Prime Financing on a variety of CIB and firm-wide forums related to balance sheet and related reporting implementation.
Strong quantitative/analytical skills and attention to detail
Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills.
Knowledge of regulatory rules – Basel III, GSIB, preferred
Excellent Communication and Presentation skills – written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and execute on a variety of deliverables
Ability to think on your toes and be creative with ad hoc requests
Derivatives experience preferred
Strong Accounting/Finance background
Self-Motivated and Results Driven
Ability to implement and maintain effective controls
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
