The Custody & Funds Services (C&FS) business in Australia continues to invest heavily in its platform with a focus on three key pillars:

  1. Build out of the local accounting and tax platform to deliver greater precision and granularity within the core record
  2. Integration of the accounting platform with global surround technology to get the best from J.P. Morgan’s global input utilities and downstream reporting and product capabilities, at the same time retiring local technology and processes
  3. Significant enhancements to operational efficiency and control through investment in automation, workflow tools and using core technology to drive out user defined tools and manual processes

The investment program itself is organized in functional groupings, aligned to J.P. Morgan’s global Product Development setup across Inbound functions (eg. Instruction capture, Data Management), Core Processing (eg. Accounting & Tax) and Outbound functions (eg. Client Reporting & Data Provision, Investment Analytics).



Position Summary:


Reporting into a Project Manager within the Product Development team, the Business Analyst will join a team of project managers and business analysts responsible for the execution of projects within the Outbound function. The team will consist of a project manager, business analysts, developers, testers and ops subject matter experts.


The role involves the support of multiple projects and features in the overall backlog of the team. These projects range from short duration of 1-3 months, to projects that can run for over 12 months and impact multiple business areas and/or clients.


The position will require a variety of skills utilizing Business Analysis skills and and project coordination. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform all skills in a multitude of ongoing overlapping client projects and prioritisation.


Key Accountabilities / Major Responsibilities:

Working in a Client Projects setting applying a mix of Waterfall and AGILE methodology, the responsibilities include:

Business Analysis including:

  • Planning & Monitoring of requirements approach, stakeholder analysis, communication and progress
  • Elicitation, documentation and validation of requirements
  • Communication of requirements, management of changes to requirements
  • Enterprise Analysis including business problem / opportunity and benefits case
  • Requirements Analysis including understanding of the AS-IS process models, documentation of assumptions and constraints and Business impact analysis
  • Solution Assessment & Validation – Working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to assess proposed solutions, define the transition requirements to move to the new solution,
  • Testing including creation of test strategy and test scripts and coordination of the execution of testing and sign off. Testing may include Unit Testing, System Testing, User Acceptance Testing and Post Verification Testing. Assessment of the business impact of defects and issues.
  • Change Management including creation of the implementation plan, coordination of implementation activities including user access, user guides, training manuals, delivery of training, control updates and sign offs
  • Contribution to project management activities including the project plan, risk management, resource planning and communication of progress.

Qualifications/ Experience/ Knowledge:

  • Business Knowledge and Expertise – experience of the custody operations, enabling interpretation of the regulatory requirements in the context of the business.
  • Project Delivery Experience – experience working within project management disciplines such as Agile
  • Industry Knowledge and Expertise – the ability to understand the bigger picture industry trends, risks and opportunities driving regulatory change.
  • Understanding of competitors and markets - can describe current industry “best practice” within areas of experience.
  • Data mapping and transformation experience would be an advantage
  • Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Project, Visio, Powerpoint, Outlook).
  • 5+ years’ experience in project related roles within the financial services industry (preferably with Agile/Scrum methodology)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Project and other key MS Office tools
  • Clear understanding of superannuation & investment management middle-office and back-office activities
  • Highly motivated with a positive ‘can do’ attitude – adaptable, versatile and able to manage ambiguity
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build networks across all levels/areas of the business
  • Well developed problem solving capability – drive issues through to resolution
  • Proactive in identifying and implementing change improvements – champion of change
  • Ability to manoeuvre within a matrix organisation to achieve project objectives
  • Effective team player with proven leadership skills
  • Ability to cope with multiple priorities in an ever changing environment
