Group Description
CIB Credit Risk Management oversees lending activities and related credit exposures within JPMorgan’s Corporate & Investment Bank (CIB). The group is organized by geography with teams aligned by industry. CIB Credit Risk Managers lead the client credit relationship in partnership with CIB Coverage.
Special Credits Group (SCG) primarily focuses on risk-managing and maximizing the recovery of JPM’s credit exposure through early intervention in and financial restructuring of stressed and distressed borrowers. SCG is industry-agnostic and play a role in identifying credit issues early which allows the firm to risk manage deteriorating exposures effectively. SCG also manages litigious/settlement situations; tracks longstanding liquidations; oversees a portfolio of instruments (equity and debt) received historically in exchange for loans through a restructuring process; and opportunistically evaluates situations for the Firm to participate in new money situations on a case by case basis.
Job Responsibilities
  • Represent JPMorgan in lending syndicate/bilateral capacity and provide leadership to investors, company management, financial advisors, and outside counsel on generating the best solution for repayment of credit exposure and preserving important client relationships.
  • Ongoing credit monitoring of a portfolio of Credit Surveillance Report (CSR) borrowers in both EMEA and Asia-Pacific, including financial analysis of stressed/distressed counterparties, relative value analysis, adequacy of reserves, and legal documentation review.
  • Broad-based interaction across geographies with Corporate/EM/FIG Credit Risk, Treasury Services Risk, Secondary loan trading, Coverage and Legal & Compliance colleagues. Close linkage into SCG New York.
  • Part and parcel of credit decision-making process in live stressed/distressed situations on an ‘advised’ or ‘managed’ basis. Formulation of exposure management strategy (incl. decision to sell down) alongside other internal stakeholders.
  • Exhibit solid judgment and provide guidance in non-standard credit situations applying relevant SCG policies, processes and procedures
  • Participation in Firm-wide projects as appropriate. Input into specific reports going to senior management (wholesale credit costs forecast; portfolio valuation report etc.)
  • Previous Credit Risk and/or Leveraged Finance origination and/or restructuring experience strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should have an interest in outside stakeholder interaction and possess first rate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management and influencing/ negotiation skills and demonstrable end-to-end ownership of transactions with a focus on legal documentation and corporate finance analysis.
  • Must be able to work well and independently under pressure in a demanding environment.
