Market Risk Coverage – Credit Trading


Group description:


CIB Market Risk Management is an independent risk group, reporting to the firm’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), which identifies, measures, monitors and controls market risk. The group forms the key interface for discussing risk issues with the trading desks but retains independent reporting lines through the Risk management chain.


CIB Market Risk performs the following primary functions:

  • Independent ongoing identification, monitoring and control of business unit market risk
  • Performance of stress testing and qualitative risk assessments
  • Analysis of aggregated risks and tail risk exposure
  • Facilitation of efficient risk-return decisions
  • Regular dialogue with the trading businesses with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.


  • IB Market Risk Coverage for Credit Trading Legal Entity risk (LE) and Firmwide coverage for Single Name Position Risk (SNPR)



  • Coverage of Legal Entity risk for Credit Trading, and Firmwide SNPR coverage

  • Ownership and responsibility for legal entity and SNPR tasks such as stress testing, VaR, P&L backtesting, limit monitoring, validating and resolving limit excess issues, as well as accuracy of risk data.

  • Responsibility for defining best practice with regards to Legal Entity Risk Coverage and SNPR coverage - Work with Front Office, Finance, QR, Technology, Middle Office and other Market Risk coverage groups to develop new tools and metrics to make the important risks and P&L drivers more transparent to senior management

  • Partner with Coverage as well as other teams/functions to manage and respond to Regulatory/Audit requests.

  • Understand regulatory requirements and constraints that affects risk management across the Global Credit business

  • Further develop the legal entity and SNPR risk management framework, ensuring consistency across regions, as well as with global practices and other Lines of Business.

  • Highlighting concentrated or concerning risk positions within legal entities; ensure appropriate reporting, transparency and management as well as appropriate escalation to senior management

  • Representing GCT in working groups and legal entity oversight forums with regard to a wide range of topics such as, Regulatory initiatives and submissions (FDSF, Group Failure etc.), New Business Initiation Approvals as well as weekly risk meetings with Front Office

Skills / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Good existing knowledge of financial markets, preferably in Credit (including derivatives). Broad interest in markets essential
  • Good technical skills (Risk methodology/Products/Systems) – knowledge of MS Excel (VBA preferred)
  • Strong analytical & quantitative skills- experience and working knowledge in statistics
  • Understanding of risk sensitivities and P&L drivers
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Proactive and able to work independently. Ability to manage own workload. Lateral thinker, tenacious, commitment to getting things done and detail focused
  • Strong team player
