Legal Entity Market Risk


Market Risk is an independent risk group, overseen by the IB Chief Risk Officer, which measures, monitors and controls market risk. Within Market Risk department, Legal Entity Market Risk team focuses on market risk management across each individual legal entity.

Market risk management seeks to ensure that the firm's market risk profile is transparent to senior management, the Board of Directors and regulators. Legal Entity Market Risk coverage staff has regular dialogue with the CIB trading and CTC businesses with respect to risk appetite, risk limits and individual large and complex transactions.

The group has teams aligned to each business and region and works closely with the Traders, CFOs, Middle Office and Risk Reporting to ensure a complete understanding of business issues.

Legal Entity Market Risk manages the interface and relationship with local regulators around Market Risks. This requires an understanding and interpretation of the local regulatory requirements and providing a consistent response to each of the individual regulators with whom we interact. For those entities, Legal Entity Market Risk is responsible for risk oversight and control of the legal entities, which involves the establishment of a cross line of business framework for the measurement and control of market risks at the legal entity level.


Roles and Responsibilities (Covering both Jakarta and Manila Branch)


  • Monitoring of market risk positions – with the aim to identify material risks, concentrations and tail risks to ensure no surprise.
  • Conduct ad hoc risk scenario analysis for and respond to urgent requests from senior risk and trading management.
  • Understand the factors that drive the risk and P&L on the books, follow market movement/activities affecting positions, highlight and discuss risk changes and top risks.
  • Establish and monitor risk limits for the legal entity. Provide commentary and analysis as required.
  • Assist in limit escalations and monitor key control processes.
  • Actively engage with location trading desk managers to remain current on risks, business activity, exposures, etc.
  • Establish & ensure a robust risk governance framework.
  • Participate in the location Risk Committee meetings to cover changes in and understanding of risk profiles and any market risk issue arising.
  • Effectively handle Legal Entity onsite and offsite inspections/examination.
  • Understanding the Legal Entity requirements around Market Risk in the Region.
  • Improve risk transparency, methodologies and reports by conducting deep-dives on various basis risks, curve risks, specific structure risks etc.
  • Coordinate with FO, MO, Finance, and Model Review Group and Technology on projects relating to MRI, VaR, stress, risk reporting and interact extensively with technology support teams relating to methodology and infrastructure changes and improvements.

SKMR Officer (covering Jakarta branch)


Satuan Kerja Manajemen Risiko (SKMR) or Risk Management Unit is an independent function which monitors the implementation of risk management strategy as well as the composition of risk position by category of risk and by type of functional activities in accordance to OJK Regulation No.18/POJK.03/2016.

SKMR or Risk Management Unit conducts the regular review of the Risk Management process and prepares the regular Risk Profile reports for discussion in Risk Committee and submission to the regulator.


SKMR or Risk Management Officer works closely with the respective Risk Oversight teams as well as local Risk Champions to ensure a complete understanding of risk issues in Jakarta branch and manages the interface and relationship with local regulators around Risk Profile assessments.


Roles and Responsibilities in conjunction with CRO:


  • Communicate with the regulator with regards to the Risk Profile assessments and ratings.
  • Understand the overall risk issues through regular update & communication with respective Risk Oversight teams (credit, market, liquidity & operations) to keep abreast with the latest/current risk issues pertaining to JPMCB Jakarta branch.
  • Coordinate the regular Risk Profile reports preparation and regulatory submission through the consolidation of risk assessments provided by respective local Risk Champions based on prescribed quantitative and qualitative parameters.
  • Actively involved in assessment of the proposed new activities and/or new products or NBIA
  • Actively involved in the communications and discussions on any risk events or issues of all risk stripes being raised pertaining to JPMCB Jakarta branch on an adhoc basis.
  • Actively engage with the Model Governance Group to ensure the appropriate regular review and validation of risk models being used are already in place. 




  • Minimum Bachelors degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in financial markets, previous trading or market risk management experience preferred.
  • At least 3 years experience
  • Strong knowledge of local financial markets and products, including derivatives.
  •  Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Must be able to converse with a wide variety of groups.
  •  Deep sense of accountability and able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Innovative, able to think out of the box and make clear recommendations.
  • Strong analytical skills and highly numerate. Sound understanding of quantitative concepts relating to risk sensitivity, P&L explain, VaR and stress testing.
  • Strong knowledge on risk control processes.
  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure with commitment to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Familiar with Risk Management related to local regulations.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills.
  • Logical thinking, details driven and well ordered.
  • Strong team player.
