We are looking for a talented lawyer to join the EMEA Markets Practice Group in London to support the Credit Trading and Credit Exotics businesses.

The role focuses on providing transactional advice and regulatory advice.  This is a technically challenging role requiring excellent drafting skills and a strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework relating to the Credit Trading and Credit Exotics businesses, as well as excellent communications skills and an ability to work within a team.


Core responsibilities


Core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing legal and structuring advice to the business on, and drafting documentation for, bespoke credit derivatives, financing transactions or other credit risk transfer transactions;

  • Drafting documentation for and providing legal and regulatory advice on proprietary investable indices;

  • Advising on and assisting the business with the implementation of regulatory projects (e.g. MiFID II, BMR, EMIR) or other projects (e.g. Brexit);

  • Reviewing and negotiating English or foreign law legal opinions and advising the business on cross-border issues;

  • Participating in ISDA credit related committees or working groups;

  • Advising the business on credit events, auctions, succession events and CDS settlement.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Fluent in English

  • Lawyer must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction.
  • Ability to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines and to manage heavy workload;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Team player, confident and proactive, with interest in working closely with the business;

  • Familiarity with and strong interest in the regulatory and policy framework for derivatives transactions;
  • Experience with structured products and derivatives documentation (in particular ISDA credit derivatives and 2006 definitions);
  • Good commercial awareness, solutions driven, with ability to advise the business on cross-border issues;
  • Experience with proprietary indices and related legal and regulatory issues;
  • Excellent drafting skills; and

  • Strong ability to identify and assess legal and reputation risk.
