Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is the technology infrastructure organization for the firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner. The Global Service Operations (GSO) organization within GTI plays a critical role in providing operational support of enterprise systems that host applications at the core of JPMorgan Chase's business.


The Backup Operations organization within GSO is responsible for all aspects of data backup support including incident and problem management, infrastructure maintenance, restore requests, technology refresh planning and execution, operational risk management and continual service improvement.

This position is responsible for leading a transformation of our Backup Operations environment; the successful candidate will work in a small dedicated cross platform/cross organizational team with responsibility for establishing and driving adoption of new Backup Operational Standards. The successful candidate will drive a decoupled ecosystem such that data required for regulatory requirements is handled separate and distinct from data required for operational resiliency.



  • Drive Backup Service readiness for General Data Privacy Regulations (GDPR)
  • Drive Backup Service readiness for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS)
  • Drive improvement in  Cyber and Legal hold processes to avoid data over-retention
  • Drive improvement and be accountable for Backup Service Resiliency
  • Coordinate and be a single point of contact for compliance, audit and regulatory engagements
  • Partner closely with the relevant GTI and LOB stakeholders to define, drive, and report on strategic programs that continuously reduce risk and improve stability and efficiency of the environment
  • Ensure that operational processes are auditable and Risk/Control is embedded into all aspects of operations. Conducting risk self assessments and escalating issues as identified
  • Document control gaps within the environment and associated remediation plans
  • Track and monitor the status of all relevant action plans at the key milestone level
  • Perform long-term planning and vision in the operations environment 

This position may require the use of one or more High Security Access (HSA) systems.  Users of these systems are subject to enhanced screening which includes both criminal and credit background checks, and/or other enhanced screening at the time of accepting the position and on an annual basis thereafter.  The enhanced screening will need to be successfully completed prior to commencing employment or assignment.

General Requirements:

  • Experience with Data Backup and Archive Technology

  • Good understanding of record retention principles and associated business criticality

  • Recent experience working in a corporate Audit, Compliance, Risk and Controls environment

  • Experience with data privacy compliance, risk identification, control evaluation, control testing, sampling methodologies, audit engagement process, controls substantiation, etc.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and frameworks (e.g: ISO17799/27001, CobIT, COSO, NIST)

  • Knowledge of IT Risk regulatory requirements such as SOX, SSAE16, AAF, PCI-DSS etc.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure operations and engineering, project management, ITIL

  • Experience with emerging technologies including cloud based applications, software defined infrastructure and agile methodology

  • Advanced business continuity and resiliency knowledge

  • Must be able to work in a high pressure, dynamic operations environment, available on a 24x7x365 basis as needed in order to meet business requirements

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Outstanding communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical and non-technical discussion topics in both written and oral form to customers, peers and senior leadership

  • Proven ability to innovate creative and practical solutions to deliver business value

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Business related field

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g: CISSP, CIPP, CISA)

  • Financial services experience

  • Good understanding of impact and importance of backup/storage services to customers. Sense of urgency around critical issues
  • Ability to develop presentations, and to present to mid/large sized audiences
  • Firm understanding of project management methodologies and tools
  • Good positive attitude and helpful approach

  • Ability to communicate clear and concise information in support of team and firm goals
  • Timely escalation of critical and/or complex issues as required
  • Ability to solve operational issues with both tactical and long-term solutions

  • Good planning skills and ability to deliver on agreed schedules
