Role
The role will report to the Japan Head of TS/GTLP/GCB/CB Compliance and be responsible for the Compliance program in Japan for the Treasury Services (TS), Global Trade and Loan Products (GTLP), Global Corporate Banking (GCB), Commercial Banking (CB) businesses as well as general Bank Compliance, working in partnership with colleagues both locally and regionally in Global Financial Crimes Compliance, and core and infrastructure compliance functions including Compliance Testing, Compliance Education, Technology Compliance as required.
 
Responsibilities
  • Providing advice to the TS/GTLP/GCB/CB Business on regulatory issues, including updates, and assist in assessing the impact of any new regulations across the legal entities in Japan where TS/GTLP/GCB/CB business resides.
  • Conducting regulatory due diligence in partnership with Asia Pacific Compliance team covering TS/GTLP/GCB/CB with respect to new product and business activities which involve “Japan” in any aspect.
  • Conducting assessment exercises to evaluate the effectiveness of the procedures adopted by the business
  • Identify and assist in resolving compliance control gaps and make recommendations for enhancements where necessary.
  • Managing and interfacing with Regional Compliance teams, Legal, Risk  and other control functions i.e. Oversight and Control to achieve Compliance and Business objectives
  • Contributing to the engagement with local regulators and law enforcement agencies concerning the conduct of business in Japan or involving Japan aspect.
  • Conducting training and communication activities to ensure that employees are familiar with relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Supporting the business with client related activities where appropriate - client seminars and training events
  • Leading and contributing to the implementation of policies and procedures both lines of business specific or location/legal entity wide.
  • Participate in special projects as needed to support the Compliance agenda
  • Leading and contributing to the location wide initiative for regulatory inspection, supervision/monitoring
 
  • Bachelors Degree and preferably additional professional or post graduated qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 - 7 years relevant experience in a Financial Services, Regulatory, Legal or Audit/Consulting environment with preferably experience in working with regional Compliance partners.
  • A broad knowledge base of banking laws and other regulations related to legal entities in Japan and specific knowledge about TS/GTLP/GCB/CB related product including Sanctions/AML area would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills, including effective data analysis, investigative problem solving skills and ability to make sound decisions about compliance risks and recommend appropriate corrective action.
  • Organized and able to execute responsibilities with minimal supervision; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and bring tasks to completion within established timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate and high quality work product. Clear and concise verbal and written communication.
  • Proven ability to communicate in difficult/sensitive situations and create consensus
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the objective in the environment of regional/global organization and to represent Japan in that environment.
