Job Description:
We are looking for an Application Support Lead with strong Unix, Hadoop and database skills to join the Chief Investment Office & Treasury (CIO & Treasury) Operate Team.  This team supports a suite of applications which involves monitoring of various regional intraday and overnight/EOD batches running on Linux and Windows environments.  The role is to ensure uninterrupted delivery of these systems to the business and to facilitate changes to these systems to enable the business to grow.   
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in a Linux/Sybase/Oracle/Windows/ HDFS architecture, Kerberos, Hadoop, Understanding of Map/Reduce principles on Hadoop environment, and should be able to investigate job failures by analyzing event logs and log files, check job dependencies, query databases, restart batch streams, be comfortable with Unix/Linux text editors and propose changes to make the batch streams more efficient.  
  • Familiarity with automated scheduling tools such as Autosys , and understanding of scheduling concepts is a must. 
  • The individual must be proficient in shell and/or Perl/Python
  • Exposure to any of these other areas would be considered a plus:  C/C++, Java/J2EE, VB/.Net. 
The individual must have excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills, as he/she would be required to interact with a global team, should be able to clearly explain technical issues, and contribute to global operate knowledge base by documenting procedures and common errors.  Once training is completed, candidate should be able to carry on work independently with minimal supervision.
The role includes:
  • BAU Support – provide coverage during daily production runs; interact with users and feed suppliers/recipients; perform analysis of user related queries; contribute to global operate knowledge base.  Candidate will be required to participate in early/late shift rotations, as well as a weekend and holiday rotation schedules
  • Release Management – deploy software changes to production environment, following, enforcing, and suggesting controls to keep the production and UAT  environments controlled 

  • 5+ years working in a support capacity in a time critical environment, ideally with experience or exposure of working in a financial institution
  • Experience with Data Warehouse and BusinessIntelligence technology involving , HDFS architecture, Kerberos, Hadoop, Understanding of Map/Reduce principles on Hadoop experience supporting Hive, Impala , HBase, MongoDB, Demonstrated proficiency with at least one scripting language (i.e. Bash, Python, Perl), Experience with the Cloudera Hadoop distribution, Experience working in a secured Hadoop Cluster environment.
  • Familiarity with the Unix and Windows Operating system and environment
  • Must be able to multi-task in a complex production environment and quickly acquire broad knowledge of applications.
  • UNIX (RedHat Linux) skills including Unix Shell Scripting – ksh, perl, bash etc.
  • Database skills (Sybase, Oracle, ,MSQL) including SQL and Stored Procedures
  • Experience with application support peripherals a plus
  • Geneos, Autosys
  • Knowledge of java based application development a plus

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to interact with individuals on all organizational levels.
  • Self starter with confidence to drive issues through to completion in highly pressured environment
  • Strong problem management and problem investigation skills with ability to learn new skills quickly to value add in problem focus areas
