The Commercial Banking Legal team is seeking an attorney experienced in commercial or real estate lending to join the team as a lawyer supporting Wholesale Lending Services (“WLS”).   The position will be based in Chicago.
 
WLS sits in the Commercial Banking line of business of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co.   WLS provides services to various businesses in JPMorgan Chase, including Commercial Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, Business Banking, Dealer Commercial Services and Asset and Wealth Management.  WLS provides vital loan servicing functions to key business units within our company on a global basis. These functions include:
      • Collateral Perfection and Management
      • Construction Management
      • Credit Administration
      • Customer Service and Reporting
      • Insurance Assessment and Monitoring
      • Loan Documentation, Closing and Funding
      • Payment and Fee Processing
      • Project Management
      • Quality Improvement
      • Risk and Control
      • Syndicated Loan and Trade Processing
The role is to be one of the primary legal contacts for WLS and to help coordinate the delivery of legal services to WLS. 
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Partnering with Risk, Control and Compliance colleagues regarding operational and regulatory risk and control issues
  • Identifying and mitigating risks (legal, reputational and other)
  • Participating on cross line of business projects on a variety of subjects
  • Undertaking a review of existing WLS procedures and instituting an ongoing sustainable review process for such procedures
  • Counseling WLS staff on documenting, booking and servicing of loans and on forms, policies, procedures and job aids 
  • Providing legal interpretations of federal and state regulations and their applicability to WLS
  • Preparing and updating standard forms and procedures
  • Coordinating appropriate legal training for the WLS businesses
  • Coordinating with the legal contacts in the other LOBs that WLS supports
  • Attending and participating in various standing WLS meetings
Qualifications:
 
  • Juris Doctor Degree with at least 3 years of relevant legal experience in commercial or real estate lending at a law firm and/or in-house legal department at a large bank or other financial services company
  • Attorney candidate must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including those of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment
  • The strategic vision to anticipate legal issues for different businesses and business models
  • The ability to lead, manage, and pull teams together to drive change and collaboration across a variety of functional areas
  • The ability to prioritize work, manage a large number of issues at one time, and interact with senior and executive management
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of the legal and regulatory requirements for commercial banking businesses is strongly preferred
  • Collegial; able to maintain good relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Demonstrated problem solving and project management skills, judgment and character 
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
