The HRSD Payroll Professional role is responsible for providing accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly payroll for employees, in accordance with government regulatory requirements. This includes processing of all statutory remittances, and meeting all regulatory reporting requirements such as ROE, Stats Can, and Workers compensation.

Payroll Processing


  • Responsible for the internal processing of a large payroll (500+ employees) including off cycle payrolls for bonus and year end off cycles updates.
  • Point of contact for internal payroll operations and other stakeholders.
  • Review, correct and audit payroll output (query reports) produced by Internal Operations to ensure accuracy.
  • Process and maintain all garnishment notices.
  • Compile on cycle and off cycle payroll input files, including variable compensation (severance, retirement allowance, incentive, vacation), miscellaneous deductions, pension and savings file, expat entries and any manual updates.
  • Keeps current with policy and regulatory changes which may affect payroll.
  • Confirming ACH file delivery for the payroll Legal entities


Regulatory Tax Processing


  • Processing and validation of funding, regulatory tax payments including CRA, EHT and garnishments.
  • Run Record of Employment Process via PS and transmit to Service Canada

Yearend Processing


  • Run yearend reports on a monthly basis to validate and correct Pier errors.
  • Participate in testing of all tax updates and validate in production.
  • Produce and file annual CRA tax file and employee tax forms (T4, RL, T2200)
  • Process yearend adjustments to tax forms.

Customer Service


  • Address all Tier II payroll cases. This includes termination cases.
  • Respond to CRA or Service Canada queries. CRA payroll contact.
  • Coordinate the collection process when overpayments occur.
  • Maintain SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for payroll.







Knowledge Requirements:


  • Degree/Diploma in human resources/ Accounting/business. PCP Designation.
  • Experience in a large multi-jurisdictional payroll, finance and accounting principles and practice. Good attention to detail.
  • In depth knowledge of Canadian payroll and benefit legislation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal. Work in a team environment. Good customer service skills.

Technical Skills Required:


  • WEBI (Business Objects Reporting)
  • Strong Excel skills, Word and other Microsoft Office products.
