Our business

Our Rates and Derivatives business is the heart of our client franchise and one of the most profitable areas of the bank. Our team structures, prices and sells interest rate derivatives and cash instruments to pension funds, insurers and asset managers. We work closely with clients to find unique solutions to key client problems leveraging on J.P. Morgan's product offering and trading capabilities. As part of the role, we need to work closely with diverse departments of the bank ranging from Research to Capital Markets and from Trading to Credit and Legal.



The opportunity is to join the Rates Sales and Marketing team to cover UK pension, insurance and asset management clients.


Key responsibilities:

The role has direct sales coverage of institutions in the pension, insurance and asset management industries. As part of the role, there will be significant time spent on pricing and execution of client transactions, including more complex packages. There is also a necessity to generate business through the marketing of rates cash products – govies / supranationals / interest rate swaps / inflation swaps / repo / options and also through the writing of market comments and development of trade ideas. A key element of the role is also client management – co-ordinating efforts to ensure funds are set-up to be in a position to trade.


  • The role requires an enquiring mind, perseverance and the ability to handle a large amount of information - a strong mathematical and technical capability is essential. This will often involve working under pressure and delivering in short timescales

  • The candidate needs to be able to write well and to deal confidently with people at all levels in the organization as well as external clients

  • An ability to understand and explain the global economy is important, as is the ability to translate this into trade ideas

  • The candidate should be a team player, who is reliable and flexible enough to deal with new, often complex issues.


Essential skills

  • Experience with rates products, and an understanding of the granular details of such instruments is required

  • A demonstrable interest in the pension, insurance and asset management industries is essential

  • PowerPoint and Excel knowledge will also be required for the role

This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
