The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for providing legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally conform to the Corporation's lines of business (“LOBs”) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis.
 
Consumer & Community Banking Legal
Under the Office of the General Counsel of Consumer & Community Banking (“CCB”), the CCB Regulatory, Operations and Controls (CCB ROC) team is responsible for providing legal services to CCB Operations, including collections and recovery, collections litigation, bankruptcy, sworn document processes, tax reporting, escalated customer complaints and third party oversight. The team is also responsible for providing regulatory advice to all CCB businesses and control partners on key consumer protection statutes such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Unfair/Deceptive Acts and Practices. In addition, the team monitors state and federal law and regulatory developments and leads CCB’s participation in the firmwide Office of Legal Obligations and Legal Regulatory Change Management processes. The CCB ROC team also provides legal support to CCB’s Audit, Compliance, Risk and Controls functions and various firm wide regulatory initiatives, such as the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, the Enhanced Root Cause Analysis team and the Remediation Center of Excellence.
 
The Executive Office (EO) Legal Team, a part of the CCB ROC Team, provides centralized legal support for escalated consumer complaints to the Executive Offices within Home Lending, Card, Auto Finance, Student Lending and Consumer & Business Banking.  EO Legal reviews, among others, complaints that allege issues related to Fair Lending, Unfair Deceptive and Abusive Acts and Practices, Fair Credit Reporting Act and complaints directed to Chase senior management or involving a state or federal regulator or governmental entity EO Legal is seeking an attorney to assist with providing legal support to the Executive Offices across all CCB lines of business.          
 
The successful candidate will: 
 
  • Provide legal advice to CCB’s Executive Offices;
  • Advise the business as to the risk of those customer complaints raised by state and federal regulators and handle communications with state attorneys general offices, where necessary;
  • Assist in the investigation and response to any consumer complaints from regulators, state attorneys general, and other governmental agencies or offices;
  • Research and respond to escalated consumer inquiries using sensitivity and keen judgment;
  • Identify, escalate and resolve issues as appropriate;
  • Provide reporting and complaint trending information to the businesses and legal management;
  • Escalate matters and conduct root cause analysis of consumer complaints; and
  • Work closely with colleagues in other lines of business or control areas to ensure comprehensive and effective legal and compliance support and issue identification and resolution for CCB.
Required skills:
 
  • JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-JD practicing experience in providing legal support and advice to financial institutions either in private practice or as in-house counsel, or other experience with consumer credit and deposit law;
  • Extensive familiarity with consumer lending and deposit legal issues and substantive knowledge of the laws governing consumer financial services, including, for example, federal consumer protection statutes (e.g., TILA, FCRA, FDCPA, ECOA, SCRA);
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem solving and interpersonal and relationship management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy;
  • A proven record of successfully handling multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, high profile and rapidly evolving environment;
  • Ability to synthesize information to reach logical conclusions;
  • High degree of initiative, self-direction and ability to work independently as well as with a team;
  • Highly motivated, results oriented and client focused; and
  • Strong sense of integrity and dedication to protecting the reputation of the firm;
  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment. 
 
Required skills:
