Within Wealth Management, the Global Controls Management (GCM) organization’s primary function is to (i) ensure a sustainable and disciplined end-to-end control environment for WM; (ii) identify and escalate issues with a sense of urgency; and, (iii) partner with the business to ensure timely remediation of issues. Global Controls Management works in partnership with the business, as the first line of defense. The team assists in immediate, real time critical control issue detection, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation. In addition, the team works in collaboration with all other control functions – Compliance, Risk, Audit, and Legal.
Based in either Singapore or Hong Kong, the control officer will be responsible for the oversight of existing, control functions and protocols throughout the Firm and will provide a centralized view of and from all control functions, assisting in immediate, real time problem detection and escalation. engage the appropriate teams in a timely manner, and provide the ability to quickly remediate critical control issues across all the impacted areas of the firm. The control officer will partner closely with the Audit and Risk Committees, business, Legal, Risk, Compliance and Technology as well as other groups within the Firm. proactively identifying, anticipating, escalating and remediating control issues.
Additionally responsible for multiple components in delivering the team’s core mission to Wealth Management overall, including
Drive an Office of Legal Obligations (OLO) Assessment Team to review and prioritize obligations for assessment ensuring accurate impact analysis to the Assessment Team. A core mission of the team is to support WM’s execution of the firm’s 2017-2018 OLO Program. The Office of Legal Obligations (OLO) is a firmwide, global initiative that brings together the expertise of Legal, Lines of Business, Oversight & Control, Compliance, Risk and other key control functions, to proactively manage regulatory changes into our operations and allow us to trace end-to-end connections between laws, rules and regulations and policies, procedures and/or other documentation. Critically analyze procedures against obligations and drive engagement with key functions including Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Business to understand impact to the business and collectively assess the sufficiency of current procedures procedure
The end-to-end oversight of issue identification with activities around risk, control self-assessment (RCSA) and New Business initiatives (NBIA)
Escalation and sustainable remediation including implementation of action plans associated with regulatory issues
Build and maintain excellent relationships with internal partners and colleagues
Skills and experience required for the position include:
- 6-10 years controls management, internal audit, legal and compliance, operational risk, or equivalent experience in complex financial enterprises;
- knowledge of wealth management businesses, risk & controls preferred
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to successfully engage a broad range of individuals across various business segments and key support functions, to achieve goals without direct control over resources
- Exceptional critical thinking, project management, analytical and communication skills with the ability to directly address conflicts and escalate issues where appropriate
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic business environment, and continually reprioritize to focus on the key issues / topics
- Excellent skills using Excel and MS PowerPoint tools efficiently
- Can clearly articulate the processes supporting a business unit's function, controls, business priorities, impact on financial reporting, issues and risks associated with operational and IT infrastructure; can identify gaps and proactively help develop solutions.
