The Global Controls Management function
Within Wealth Management, the Global Controls Management (GCM) organization’s primary function is to (i) ensure a sustainable and disciplined end-to-end control environment for WM; (ii) identify and escalate issues with a sense of urgency; and, (iii) partner with the business to ensure timely remediation of issues.
Global Controls Management works in partnership with the business, as the first line of defence. The team assists in immediate, real time critical control issue detection, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation. In addition, the team works in collaboration with all other control functions – Compliance, Risk, Audit, and Legal.

Extensive interaction with a wide range of Front Office employees (Bankers, Investors and Client Service Specialists) as well as the Legal, Compliance and Business Management functions is central to the role. Collaboration with Supervisory Management colleagues across the EMEA region to provide support and coverage as well as to ensure consistency of standard and practice will also be necessary
Objectives of the Supervisory Management (SM) team:
The Supervisory Management (SM) is a dedicated business aligned team whose main responsibility is to provide general supervision of investment activity and solutions in the Private bank. The team has been established to meet the increased regulatory expectation that the business is responsible for their own supervision and to align with global best practice within the Private Bank.
The SM Team Lead reports to Regional Head of Market Aligned Controls.
The successful candidate will report to the SM Team Lead for the Continent and based in Milan.
Independent review and assessment of client suitability profile based on data collected from client and client facing staff.
Review and assess client trading activity and any potential suitability issues on a pre and post execution basis
Review and assess investment concentration issues in client accounts.
Review Investor trade blotter for signs of unusual or unexpected investment activity.
Review materials provided to clients to ensure they are appropriate and aligned to the clients investment objectives and needs
Escalate issues to senior management in the Business and other control functions
Perform change management in respect of changes in policies / procedures / processes where these relate to investment activities e.g. implementation and training on enhanced suitability framework; new trading protocol; etc.
Audit coordination and liaison as required
Producing and, on occasion, designing high quality Management Information to be used by the most senior of regional managers
React to, manage and handle potential client situations e.g. trading errors or client complaints
Attend front office meetings to provide relevant feedback and stay apprised of their current priorities
Qualifications and Key Skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple work-streams to tight deadlines and re-prioritise as required
Strong interest and sound understanding in financial markets, products and wealth management is a prerequisite for any potential candidate.
Excellent command of Microsoft Suite of applications, specifically Excel and Powerpoint. Strong IT skills are essential due to the data gathering and reporting elements of this role.
Strong and proven experience gained within a financial institutions including monitoring experience. Candidates with experience gained within a control function such as Compliance, Operational Risk or Supervisory Control are particularly sought.
Strong communication and negotiation skills: the role will involve communicating with employees of varying levels, with diverse roles, different native languages and backgrounds.
Self-motivated individual who is enthusiastic, composed, has a business mindset and demonstrates a keen interest in risk and controls frameworks
Professional maturity; the ability to work independently and handle confidential data
Fluency in English and French is required. Other languages a plus
Candidates should be at Vice President level.
