Position Summary
 
CIB Culture and Conduct BAU model employs a small, strategic specialist team embedded within the CIB LOB, closely aligned to business heads through the sub-LOB Working Groups (currently chaired by J. Kenny and S. Ilyas (Markets and IS), C. Hernandez (Banking), (S. Viswanathan (CAO)). The C&C leads act as:
  • Act as LOB contact points on culture and conduct related issues
  • Oversee the culture and conduct responsibilities of the CIB
  • Draw up emerging themes and action plans together for CIB Management
  • Co-ordinate closely with the firm’s Central C&C team (who are responsible for supporting L.E. Boards to meet their regulatory obligations as regards culture and conduct, and for driving continued thought leadership)  to ensure consistency of approach across the firm and to help develop best practice.
 
This position will report primarily into the Global Banking Culture & Conduct Lead who, in turn reports into the Global Head of Banking and the Head of International Office of Regulatory Affairs. The position is to:
  • Support the Culture and Conduct leads across Banking, and Markets & Investor Services in the execution of their work including the annual refresh of case study material for Business Conduct Training, the collation of culture and conduct metrics and preparation for regulatory reporting and supervisory visits
  • Governance around Business-led Culture and Conduct initiatives including regular Business-led Working Groups, skip level meetings, Analyst and Associate training, and other Business-led initiatives 
The role may require management of discrete projects in support of the above objectives and is likely to require frequent communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and the preparation of written and oral communications.
 
Specific tasks include:
  • Partnering with the Banking, Markets and Investor Services Culture and Conduct leads in the management of discrete projects, for example:
    • Industry Culture Symposium
    • Development of Business Conduct Training
    • Skip Level meetings
    • Employee Survey analyses
  • Oversight and execution of specific reporting requirements in relation to the culture and conduct agenda including quarterly reporting, ad hoc regulatory reporting, legal entity reporting and internal briefings for senior management
  • Assisting, as required, with a location strategy to increase awareness, drive senior leadership engagement, accountability, and culture change where necessary, and to improve our understanding of local cultural nuances which could impact our Firm-wide values and increase conduct risk
  • Support the Culture and Conduct leads in considering new and emerging culture and conduct themes, and provide join-up and knowledge sharing across other wholesale businesses.
  • Promotion of an open culture to identify/raise risks and challenge existing protocols
  • On an ad hoc basis, initiate, design and/or execute projects to meet specific regulatory requirements. These will typically be projects of strategic importance to the firm, may involve innovative or complex concepts, and/or relate to issues that cut across multiple lines of business or functions.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the CIB, particularly Banking, Markets and or Investor Services
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prepare presentations for an executive audience
  • Ease working across a range of complex issues; ability to learn new topics quickly, courage to ask questions
  • Ability to effectively engage with senior leaders around the firm
  • Ability to work both as an individual as well as a team contributor; self motivated with attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present information both orally and in writing
  • Strong fluency in conduct regulation, with sound familiarity of prudential regulation
