Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities will include, among other things, the following:
  • Providing analysis on legal issues, and assist business partners to make business judgments by providing legal support and advice to JPM’s businesses in Japan and cross border, covering both transactional and non-transactional matters (general corporate affairs, including but not limited to, data privacy, HR, litigation and regulations affecting JPM’s business in Japan).
  • Monitoring changes in law/regulations and analyzing laws/regulations to evaluate and assess impact on the Japan business.
  • Collaboration/coordination with Business and Compliance and Controls teams regarding legal and regulatory matters, whether originated in Japan or cross-border, to identify and implement policy, process and procedural changes to ensure compliance with changing laws/regulations.
  • Legal advice and policy development for local, regional or global new business initiatives, products, templates and platforms, and representing the business in Japan in this respect.
  • Participating in domestic/regional/global project teams relating to regulatory developments, requests, investigations and/or audits.
  • Assisting in developing a disciplined control environment within JPMorgan Chase, and identifying and mitigating risks (legal and other).
  • Managing outside counsel for any one of the above work streams.
  • Admission to practice law in Japan with at least 3 years of relevant experience gained at a top tier law firm or financial institution.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills.
  • Strong research and project management skills with ability to complete high-quality work within tight deadlines.
  • Experience in transactions, litigation or regulatory advisory would be considered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work well in a cross-functional/locational team to achieve common goals.
  • Effective and efficient problem solver; strong multi-tasking skills; Self-starter.
  • Ability to prioritise business needs and goals, as well as identifying and escalating material issues timely and appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Fluency in English and Japanese.
