Tax Operations and Oversight (TOO) is a team that works across Chase Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) to ensure compliance to tax reporting regulations by implementing and maintaining appropriate governance, oversight and controls. Job Description
The Vice President– Global Transaction Tax for Merchant Services will monitor compliance with domestic and foreign sales, use, VAT, GST/HST and similar tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance.  The successful candidate will provide technical tax support and advice to operational and administrative groups across the business to ensure that Merchant Services’ systems and processes are in compliance with all applicable tax laws.  By employing a pro-active approach to evolving tax legislation and regulations this role will contribute to the growth and success of the business and our ability to provide the services our customers need. 
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the growth and expansion of Merchant Services globally
  • Assist the business in dealing with complex sales, use and VAT tax issues
  • Lead efforts to ensure that tax reporting, financial systems, procedures, controls and policies are appropriate and functioning so that timely, accurate and reliable information is produced. 
  • Understand and advise the business how to incorporate regulatory tax changes into the Merchant Services operating and systems environment.
  • Liaise with business engineering in the design and implementation of information systems that will support tax compliance efforts.
  • Respond to tax compliance inquiries throughout the year.  This includes tax-related inquiries from operations, technology, internal service providers and client facing groups.
  • Work across the business to establish controls to improve tax compliance
  • Research taxability of products and services and maintenance of taxability profiles within systems and conduct annual taxability review of products and services
  • Work with Corporate Tax, Legal and Government Affairs on tax issues relevant to the business
  • Recommend and assist in the development of new/enhanced tax reporting systems, policies, procedures and controls to meet changing circumstances and existing inefficiencies.
  • Review customer, partner and vendor contracts and make tax related recommendations and comments.
  • Research complex tax questions and liaison with JPMC Corporate Tax and Tax Operations as needed.
  • Work with JPMC Corporate Tax and JPMC Tax Operations to respond to audit requests and tax compliance issues.
  • Review of tax account reconciliations for financial reporting.
  • Manage outside consultant engagements as necessary.
  • Interpret federal, state and local tax legislation to understand tax implications that impact the business.
  • Review tax calculations made by internal and external processing platforms for accuracy.
  • Liaise with managers to ensure they are familiar with the tax requirements of their specific business areas.
  • Review of any business level tax returns.
  • Bachelor Degree Business/Accounting (Masters and CPA preferred)
  • Minimum 7 - 10 years of relevant tax experience and demonstrated ability to positively interface with other departments, colleagues, senior management and external clients is required
  • Industry experience (financial services/payment processing) would be beneficial.
  • Extensive understanding of US sales and use tax principles and rules and the ability to communicate the application of those to non-tax personnel within the business.
  • General knowledge of Canadian HST/GST/PST and other VAT tax systems
  • Knowledge of operations and controls of various financial systems and software applications such as (SAP, Vertex) and the ability to extract and utilize the information from these systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - job requires communicating tax rules/regulations in understandable ways to business teams and customers and working directly with project teams on tax functionality.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
