Job Description:

J.P. Morgan is seeking talented candidates for a position as an Executive Director in our Commercial Banking (CB) Strategy Group. The role is to develop and enhance dialogue with potential strategic partners of the Commercial Banking across a number of dimensions, including product/service expansion, FinTech, APIs and other commercial arrangements.  Responsibilities include all facets of development from counterparty identification, relationship cultivation, key term development, financial business case and negotiation of contract, as well as, facilitate integration with business.


Our business

Commercial Banking provides a full range of services including lending, treasury services, investment banking, commercial card and asset management products to meet its clients’ domestic and international financial needs. CB’s 1,600 bankers serve approximately 18,000 clients nationally, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit entities, with annual revenue generally ranging from $20 million to $2 billion, and nearly 37,000 real estate clients, owners and investors.  CB is the third largest commercial bank in the U.S., with almost $170 billion in loans and almost $180 billion in deposits. In 2016, CB generated revenue and earnings of $7.5 billion and $2.7 billion, respectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within Commercial Banking, as well as with key cross-functional partners, including Business Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, Digital and various product organizations
  • Identify, engage and secure strategic partnerships that:
    • Provide incremental value to our clients in the form of enhanced products and services
    • Assist our bankers in working more efficiently and productively
    • Accelerate our use of big data and emerging technologies
    • Support our efforts around business development ecosystem
  • Collaboratively develop strategy and business proposal with cross-functional peers for potential partnerships
  • Work in conjunction with finance, legal and other teams to develop financial business case, deal constructs and other key terms associated with partnership
  • Develop and implement negotiation strategies required to win deals or renewals
  • Assist in driving the broad Business Development strategy for the organization
  • May manage associates directly or indirectly as part of responsibilities
  • Experience in strategic Business Development within financial services environment is preferred 
  • Partnership or strategic alliance development experience
  • Negotiation, contracting or other expertise
  • Ability to work independently and create goals and vision for delivery
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and analytical skills
  • Ability to problem solve and clearly articulate objectives and the required path(s) to implement new process/program
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with desire of using both in collaboration with potential partners and internal stakeholders
  • Sense of urgency with disposition to execute and a demonstrated career of successful program implementations
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience in driving strategy within a large multi-segment organization
  • BS degree or equivalent experience required, MBA preferred
  • Proven exceptional relationship building skills inside and outside the organization
