Job Description:
The Chief Data Office (CDO) has a mandate set and actively supported at the board level to
transform data management towards demonstrable shareholder value. The Data Network
Architecture (DNA) team has a firm wide remit to deliver a broad set of data management
capabilities including the overall functional and technical vision for data governance.
Accountable for identifying and compiling a comprehensive list of strategic and standardised firm wide taxonomies; implementing an effective governance and SME engagement framework around their management; overseeing and coordinating a process to allow the taxonomies to be utilised successfully across JPM, specifically as part of the CDO for Data Management in support of Critical Business Initiatives. Supporting the product owner within the D.N.A Utilities team to develop a strategic tool which will house the list of firm wide Taxonomies.
Business case
        • A centralised Taxonomy list, providing a standardised approach to categorising key elements of the firm and its Data, utilised by all LoBs and programs across JPM, is a key contributor to the success of delivering Data Management capabilities and the central objectives of the CDO.
        • A central Taxonomy list requires approval and engagement by a cross firm stakeholder community and supporting SMEs. This will be centrally coordinated by the DNA team, but with an emphasis on intellectual ownership by the SMEs and relevant LoBs.
        • The production and management of strategic Taxonomy lists, themes and values should primarily support the delivery of positive business outcomes, strategic programs and efficient Data Management.
        • The DNA Taxonomy lead should coordinate, own and manage the sequencing and prioritisation of delivery of strategic Taxonomies in partnership with the participating LoBs.
        • Provide a list of strategic Taxonomies that can be utilised as a basis of Data categorisation across the firm’s Applications and Data architecture.
        • Partner with cross firm LoBs and strategic Information Architects to develop a list of Taxonomies and that is in complete alignment with solutions that support JPMs and the CDO objectives.
  • Develop a strategic Taxonomy management process that meets the changing and growing needs of firm wide LoBs.
  • Partner with stakeholders, SMEs and users to agree the operating model for each Taxonomy.
Taxonomies Lead Delivery
  • Taxonomy Inventory: Create a comprehensive list of existing and required strategic taxonomies from across the firm. Ascertain the current state governance, values, sources, gaps/opportunities, user base and business value. The Taxonomies should deliver value to both Data Management programs as well as firm wide strategic programs (emphasising Critical Business Initiatives). Taxonomies should be strategically sourced from SORs/ADSs and should be classified/tracked accordingly in the Boundary Service process.
  • Taxonomy Governance: Help implement a standardised and effective approach to all Taxonomy governance. Governance should be appropriately represented with engaged Stakeholders and SMEs from all LoBs.
  • Taxonomy Change: Through engagement with SMEs, have an informed opinion on the content of Taxonomies, manage a successful governance program that helps to deliver effective business use. Be flexible and open minded to cater for many opinions and perspectives, but deliver against a complex environment. Identify new requirements, manage ongoing change requests and expand the list of Taxonomies to meet the business needs.
  • Taxonomy Tool:  Support the product owner and technology design team by helping provide requirements from engagement with LoB SMEs and Stakeholders.
  • Taxonomy Use: Ensure that the values and structure of the Taxonomies are fit for purpose for multiple use across the firm, whilst still meeting the needs of specific LoBs. The Taxonomies should support the classification of the CDO Data Boundary Service, as well strategic programs. Support the use and distribution of the Taxonomy Tool and its contents across the firm. Support development of training material and its implementation.
  • Exceptional governance, project management and organisational skills. Experience in Data Management and change management with a proven track record in delivery of major programs within the Financial Services industry.
  • A wide knowledge of products, business terms, markets and reference data in relation to Financial Services. A good understanding of the structure and LoBs across JPMC would not be necessary, but advantageous.
  • Outstanding communication skills. Ability to partner with, coordinate and obtain information from SMEs. Manage and report to stakeholders from various LoBs. Demonstrate a credible level of understanding to specific business needs and ability to translate the SME and Stakeholder key information into a refined and useful set of Taxonomies and requirements.
  • Strong use of Microsoft software applications to deliver presentations and professional supporting material to senior stakeholders.
  • A hard working ethos and strong sense of self-motivation in order to lead, own and deliver against objectives.
