Markets Business Control Officer – Vice President : Americas Sales

 

J .P. Morgan’s Global Sales Group offers clients a comprehensive set of banking capabilities across the full spectrum of asset classes across FICC and Equities, operating around the globe with main offices in London, New York, Japan and Australia.

 

The role is to support the Business Control Office by helping with the management of the end to end control environment spanning all of the primary functions from business execution,  credit risk, market risk, model risk, VCG, Operations and through to Finance for the NA Sales business.  The Americas Sales BCO team is part of a wider Markets BCO team which reports into the Oversight and Control office as well as the Markets CFO.

 

The BCO team plays a key role for the business in the current environment and the role has continued to evolve to meet the increasing demands from the business.  The focus of the role is now on ownership, enhancement and execution of the controls.  As the role continues to grow in importance it will continue to evolve and the successful candidate will have a key role to play in defining changes to the role going forward.

 

The business control officer (BCO) will interact with multiple lines of business and corporate functions and will need to be able to work effectively with senior executives of the firm.  The BCO will be based on the Trading floor, he/she will need to establish very strong relationships within the Americas Sales businesses i.e. business head, desk heads, sales personnel, business managers and keys business partners such as Product Control, Technology, Market Risk, Operations, Compliance etc. He/she will need to develop a deep understanding of the business, its control challenges, the architecture and products.  The candidate should be interested in working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, participating in key initiatives and becoming involved in a diverse set of issues that will have a direct impact on the organization.

 

The Business Control Officers focus will be:

  • Trusted Front Office control advisors
  • Represent Front Office interests vis a vis control/regulatory initiatives
  • Execute and implement business controls priorities and strategy
  • Front office supervisory management and execution
  • Control and Risk governance implementation and reporting
 
Key responsibilities include
  • Facilitator of full business control governance
  • Manage Controls related Projects
  • Front Office supervision management
    • Front Office Supervision systems development and oversight including exception management
    • Supervisory attestations
    • Policy development, review and implementation
    • Standard operating procedures documentation and implementation
    • Identify and remediate control gaps
  • Control and regulatory governance management
    • Front office representative in control forums
    • Prep for internal and external regulatory & control meetings/reviews
  • RCSA, error governance, control deep dive

Qualifications:
  • Understanding of Sales and markets
  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Highly motivated, energetic self-starter who takes ownership
  • Good organizational skills - manages & prioritizes multiple tasks across different time horizons within deadlines
  • Understanding of the end to end product life cycle
  • Investigative mindset, able to see issues at both a high-level and in detail.
  • A good understanding of controls and how to apply them to different processes and businesses
  • Strong analytical, problem solving & process re-engineering skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong team player with excellent partnering and influencing skill
