Merchant Services is the global payment processing business for JPMorgan Chase & Co.   Merchant Services is the world’s leading merchant acquirer with over $1 trillion in annual transaction volume in 2016. ChaseNet is a customized closed-loop proprietary payments platform, and Chase Pay is the firm’s new digital wallet that makes mobile transactions simple, safe and rewarding.  Merchant Services is a leading provider of payment, fraud and data security for companies large and small and capable of authorizing transactions in more than 130 currencies.

Chase Merchant Services is embarking on a major business modernization program for industry leading user experience.  A major deliverable in that program is a new Data Lake that will reside in JPMC’s Big Data infrastructure.

 

 

The Product Designer, Data Strategy role is to drive detailed Product Design of the Data Lake, break out high level epics into stories that can be picked up by Technology and other partners for delivery.  There are significant milestones that need to be achieved in a short span of time for the Data Lake.  Success of the program rests heavily on clarity of the user perspective and clear articulation of the underlying business drivers.  The ability to translate multiple, and sometimes conflicting, requirements and objectives into crisp stories is needed to ensure a successful outcome.

 

 

The business modernization program is run from the ground up in an agile mode.  That means that at the core, well-formed user stories are what delivers success. 

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure the Data Lake supports best in class client experience by feeding back the quality of online access to data, reporting and analytics
  • Establish fitness tests of the Product capabilities being built to ensure delivery of business value.
  • Create a strategy for quick and wide spread adoption of new capabilities and products.
  • Where needed, write user stories to close value gaps in delivered capabilities
  • Ensure that the Product Owners and the delivery teams, mostly technology, have a good understanding of the stories
  • Influence the overall prioritization of the Data Lake backlog
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of product or related experience
  • Experience interacting with a variety of user groups, with proven ability to positively influence people at a variety of levels
  • Specific experience from data centric environments, including open-source technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka and Cassandra
  • Experience in writing user stories and epics in JIRA and supporting materials in Confluence
  • Proven success in presenting to delivery teams, focusing on key messages and clear delivery
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, a positive self-starter with proactive approach
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Proficient technical skills, including understanding of data management technologies
  • Experience in effective story writing in an agile delivery model
  • Passion for data and the convergence of technology and business value through Big Data.
