The Compliance group is part of the Risk and Compliance department and provides oversight of compliance risk globally across all of JPMorgan Chase’s lines of business and corporate functions.    The primary purpose of the newly established Process Improvement team is to assist senior Compliance management in the establishment of a strategic improvement agenda and in its execution.
The Process Improvement team is responsible for leading critical diagnostic, process improvement and re-engineering efforts throughout the Compliance department and in support of Compliance’s strategic agenda with the ultimate goal of improving risk management effectiveness and efficiency.  Typical projects are sponsored by the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and the CCOs of the lines of business and require development and implementation of process, organizational, analytical and technology improvements.
Key responsibilities of the team will include:
  • Assisting the Compliance management team in accomplishing the department’s mission by: 1) developing a strategic agenda for delivering on that mission; 2) ensuring specific improvement action plans in line with the strategy including significant tactical improvements (as collected in the Annual Compliance Plan)
  • Assisting in the development and execution of strategic action plans by providing general management resources with skills including:
    • Project management
    • Analysis
    • Re-engineering and process improvement
    • Written and verbal communications
  • Leading and driving select strategic projects that are cross-Compliance
  • Conducting operational reviews to identify opportunities to enhance effectiveness and efficiency
  • Tracking progress of strategic initiatives against goals
  • Coordinating consulting engagements that are in line with the Compliance strategic agenda
  • Coordinating identification, qualification, progress tracking and business analyst support for technology innovation opportunities including:
    • Robotics & Machine learning projects
    • Identification and qualification of FinTech opportunities applicable to Compliance in partnership with Compliance Technology staff
  • Championing innovation for the Compliance department including:
    • Leading Compliance’s efforts on innovation in achieving a cultural change in partnership with Risk
    • Ensuring a suitable review and response to new ideas
    • Assist in conducting bi-annual brain storming sessions with Compliance Innovation Champions and other initiatives such as facilitating annual ‘Shark Tank’ and ‘July Innovation’ month events
  • Understanding the structure of other innovation efforts within and outside JPMorgan for applicability to Compliance
Job Description
In the role of Executive Director (ED), you will lead the team and collaborate with the senior management of Compliance to prioritize, lead, and execute problem solving, issue identification, and performance improvement projects across Compliance.  You will be responsible for recruiting and managing a small team of staff charged with scoping problems, identifying major issues and actionable opportunities, designing solutions, and quantifying potential bottom-line financial impact.  The team will continue to expand including a global presence based on the success of the group and in line with demand.  As the ED, you will oversee multiple work streams and will collaborate with your team to build hypothesis sets, analyses, and roadmaps for solutions.  You will build relationships with key stakeholders across the organization and will perform quality control of your team and lead presentations on findings and recommendations.  You will also responsible for developing junior team members, including providing informal feedback, conducting formal evaluations, and serving as a mentor. 
  • Experience in compliance department preferred.  Experience in financial services or financial services consulting required
  • Experience with top-tier management consulting firm, internal consulting team or other demonstrated experience of 7+ years of process improvement/re-engineering efforts required
  • Possess college degree; MBA from top-tier program preferred

  • Problem solving demonstrate the ability to identify key issues, gather data to investigate those issues and develop actionable recommendations.  Given a strong fact base, candidate should be able to defend his/her point of view in the face of resistance
  • Analytical –highly analytical with experience in defining analytical approaches for projects and applying a range of analytical tools to synthesize insights and develop solutions.  Able to identify areas where statistical methods could improve performance
  • Project management able to scope projects and create workable project plans.  He/she must plan ahead of resource requirements and should motivate and leverage available resources (both internal and potentially external consultants) to execute on work plan. Candidate must be able to meet commitments and balance competing priorities
  • Teamwork and leadership experience in simultaneously managing multiple projects and be flexible in his/her work style and be able to appropriately deploy, mentor, and develop junior talent within the team
  • Client management demonstrate the ability to closely partner with senior and line managers and other stakeholders on projects
  • Communications possess strong written and oral executive-level communications skills, including the ability to quickly adjust messages and style based on different audiences and agendas
  • Technology – sufficient knowledge of emerging technologies such as robotics and machine learning to identify potential opportunities to apply them to improve performance
