As a member of the Infrastructure Engineering team, you'll play a big part in designing the platforms, servers, and networks make it possible for us to provide service to our customers, clients, and businesses around the globe each and every day.  In this role you’ll call on your experience designing tailored solutions to understand the requirements of a project, test the performance of the infrastructure, and verify that the requirements have been successfully met.  As a team, you and your peers will be responsible for driving results, collecting and analyzing monitoring data in test and production, and managing projects to completion.  And while you will be part of a tight-knit team of engineers who shares your passion for technology, you’ll also gain access the best minds in the business—both as part of the JPMorgan Chase & Co. global technology community, and through our partnerships with some of the most important tech firms in the world.


As a Capacity Engineer, the candidate will gather/analyze capacity related data from various UNIX/WINDOWS servers and support key data warehouse environments.  The Capacity Planning Engineer will be required to use existing tool sets and planned tool sets (SAS, CA-Capacity Manager, etc.) to perform application capacity planning, create capacity models, produce detailed documentation and interface with management, technical and non-technical staff.

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

      Proficient knowledge in the following key areas: Hardware Architecture (performance testing, monitoring, operations), Hardware Benchmarking (Agile, program managements, network management), Design (compliance, security), Network Engineering (planning, provision)

      Intermediate understanding of LOB technology drivers and their impact on architecture design

      Knowledge of more than one specific infrastructure technology

  • Collect and validate resource and workload demand data from various infrastructure components (AIX / Linux / MS Windows) and applications
  • Use of statistical functions to correlate various data elements to establish trends and forecasts
  • Produce periodic capacity reports/presentation using PowerPoint , Excel or Microsoft SharePoint Services
  • Interface with Architecture, Development and other LOB teams to provide input on capacity and gather requirements for forecasting
  • Work with LOB contacts to understand business drivers and capacity impacts for new and existing applications
  • Work with the performance team to understand production capacity impacts for new projects based on performance test results
  • Create new work flows for process improvement
  • Manage small projects/initiatives for the capacity team
  • 6+ years work experience in capacity management, application performance management, performance testing, system administration/architecture, implementation engineering or other related field.
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in Client/Server distributed architecture environment.
  • Knowledge of various server hardware configurations and performance characteristics.
  • Database and data warehouse knowledge and capacity drivers.
  • SAN storage knowledge and capacity drivers.
  • Extensive knowledge of using Microsoft Office products (i.e., MS Word, MS Excel, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Understanding of various IBM/AIX and VMware virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with modeling tools from BMC, CA/HyPerformix or TeamQuest etc. and ITIL Capacity & Demand Management concepts are a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of advanced environment monitoring & management tools, performance modeling tools, capacity analysis tools, and other advanced modeling and trending tools.
