The JPMorgan Private Bank is seeking a Supervisory Manager (“SM”) based in New York City for the Managed Solutions and Strategy (MSS) Business.  The SM, who will be part of the Controls Management team, will be responsible for supervision, oversight and risk reviews for MSS.
The Controls Management team’s primary function is to ensure the business has a sustainable and disciplined end-to-end control environment, identify and escalate issues with a sense of urgency, and partner with the MSS Business to ensure issues are appropriately remediated in a timely manner.  The team works in partnership with the MSS Business, as the first line of defense, to assist in immediate, real time critical control issue detection, escalation, root cause analysis and remediation.  In addition, the team coordinates and works closely with other control functions including, Operational Risk, Audit, Compliance and Legal.
SM responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Partner with Oversight & Control, Compliance, Legal and Technology to develop, implement and support controls to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, firm/business policies and procedures
  • Partner with Business, management and other SMs in addressing potential concerns and exceptions, including, but not limited to Mutual Funds, Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Private Placements, Portfolio Construction, etc.)
  • Review and provide policies and procedures to new employees and disseminate information relating to changes to policies, procedures and regulatory rules
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal examinations conducted by Compliance and Internal Audit, represent management in demonstrating adherence to policies and procedures, and provide documentation in accordance with requests
  • Participate and provide input in various risk and control committees and other controls/business forums
  • Assist in ensuring all relevant training to front office personnel is complete, including assigned and annual training, and provide special training as warranted on specific topics
In addition to the above, the SM will build, assist and drive consistency with the following:
  • Review incoming and outgoing correspondence (print, fax, e-mail), including marketing materials and internal documents and presentations
  • Review due diligence policies and practices relating to Mutual Funds, Hedge Funds and Private Equity
  • Review managed account and fiduciary obligations and practices
  • Perform other regular/routine reviews, approve trades and business activities, resolve and report on issues and errors
  • Build strong working relationships with business partners, Controls Management team, Compliance, Audit, and other controls partners
  • Identify solutions and best practices to support quality of risk and control activities in alignment with regional requirements and regulations, and firm practices and standards
  • Provide regular input and ideas for ongoing analytics and ad hoc analyses on current business control environment and potential risk and control issues
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience for VP and 10 years of relevant experience for ED
  • Securities licenses, including the Series 7, 63 & S9/10 (orS8), 24, and 4 all preferred or obtained within 6 months of start date
  • Experience in a wealth management business, risk and controls function preferred
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory requirements and best practices for brokerage, managed accounts, banking and fiduciary rules
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence others and escalate when necessary
  • Exceptional critical thinking, process review and improvements, analytical and communication skills (i.e. communicate effectively at all levels of the organization)
  • Possess sense of urgency, intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, excellent analytical and problem solving skills, ability to synthesize large amounts of information and propose recommendations
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing business environment, quickly assess situations, and capitalize on change
  • Individual must be results driven, have attention to detail, has passion for driving best practices, and skilled at diplomatically breaking down barriers and obstacles
  • Comfortable and adept at making decisions independently and dealing with conflict
  • Ability to work on an integrated team of control partners in supervisory and oversight roles and providing back-up coverage as needed
