An exceptional lawyer is required for the Markets Legal Practice Group providing support to the EMEA Commodities business within a leading US investment bank.
 
The role is multi-jurisdictional and broad in scope, covering FX and physical and financial commodity derivative trading activities (across multiple commodity asset classes in metals, energy products, emissions and agricultural products), structured products, commodities financing and credit solutions, investor products/ exotics and commodity custody arrangements. The role will also focus on the regulatory regimes applicable to the commodities business, across multiple jurisdictions. This is a high profile and technically challenging role requiring strong drafting skills and a strong understanding of the legal and commercial aspects of derivative transactions, as well as excellent communications skills and an ability to work within a team.
 
Core Responsibilities:
 
Core responsibilities of the role include: 
  • Working closely with the business (in EMEA, APAC and US) from inception to close of transactions.
  • Providing assistance to the business in structuring complex deals.
  • Drafting and negotiating a broad range of bespoke agreements, including OTC derivative documentation.
  • Identifying and resolving legal and regulatory issues affecting the Commodities business.
  • Taking a lead on drafting and managing FX product documentation.
  • Working closely with the business on project related matters or new business initiatives.
  • Liaising with multiple business representatives and control functions (Litigation, Compliance, GFCC, Tax, Credit and Risk) globally.
Essential Skills/Experience 
  • Qualified in England or similar jurisdiction
  • Substantial experience with derivatives documentation and the regulatory framework governing derivatives transactions.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
  • Confident and proactive, with an interest in working closely with the business.
  • Team player. 
Desirable Skills/Experience 
  • Experience with physical and financial commodity trading and financing transactions and related legal and regulatory issues.
