Job Description:
SUMMARY
Markets’ lawyer supporting JPMorgan Chase & Co’s Currencies & Emerging Markets (CEM) business and Cash Equity and Listed F&O businesses in India. Suits a Banking, Structured Finance, Capital Markets and/or Derivatives lawyer looking to move in-house or in-house lawyer (within a Bank, Investment Bank, Financial Institution etc.) looking to move into a premier International Bank.  
 
REPORTING TO

Part of the Asia Pacific, Corporate & Investment Bank (“CIB”) Legal team based in Mumbai, India and reports to Yash Yadav, Senior Markets Lawyer, JPMorgan Chase & Co. India

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
  • 3 to 7 years PQE – At a boutique firm or a leading Indian law firm / in-house experience with MNCs and financial services sector.             
  • Background: must have experience in Structured Products as well as Credit-Related matters in a wide range of asset classes including Equity, Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, Commodity and the regulatory issues. Experience in advising on OTC derivatives related regulations including Dodd Frank, EMIR, MIFID II, margin rules and the proposed new regulations in India/ APAC would be of assistance but is not a pre-requisite for the role.
  • Previous experience in working on cross-border transactions representing/involving International Banks preferable. This role will require candidates to display excellent transaction management skills in ensuring matters are taken forward from pre-mandate/ structuring phase through to execution in addition to being able to identify and resolve legal issues and risks.
  • Experience gained in-house (at a bank with a Structured Financing / Capital Markets/ Derivatives business) or in private practice in Banking, Capital Markets and/or Derivatives practice.
  • Strong understanding of the Indian regulatory environment is expected.
  • Candidate will be expected to work with the senior lawyers in the region on a variety of global regulatory reform initiatives which impact Bank’s Indian operations and actively participate in global practice groups.
  • Ability to be pro-active and interact well with colleagues in India and in the region is essential – this role requires candidate to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated, pro-active and ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment, prioritize, escalate issues, and respond to business needs and goals.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills. Ability to adapt and apply legal skills in new businesses and subjects in which lawyer does not have previous experience.
  • Managing external counsel relationships independently, including instructing and working with external counsels on cross-border transactions/ matters.
