Within the Corporate and Investment Bank, Credit Risk Management is responsible for managing credit exposure generated by lending, trading, cash management and other activities. The group is organized by geography. CIB Credit Risk Managers lead the client credit relationship in partnership with CIB Coverage, Global Corporate Banking, Derivatives, Investment Grade & Leveraged Finance, Securitized Products, Sales & Trading, Treasury & Security Services, Legal, etc.

Credit Risk works closely with businesses and functions across the Corporate and Investment Bank including Derivatives, Treasury Services, Client Coverage teams, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets and M&A. Credit Risk also works closely with CCIC teams across Collateral, Derivatives, Margining, Stress and Securities portfolios, Legal Entity Credit Risk and Basel governance.

 

Key responsibilities

Analysts are assigned to cover a portfolio of clients on an ongoing basis with primary responsibility for performing credit analysis and client exposure management. Specific duties include:

  • Developing a well-informed and forward looking view of the client business or assets financed
  • Remaining current on all aspects of the assigned credit portfolio, including industry trends, portfolio performance, compliance, potential problems and opportunities
  • Preparing and presenting credit approval memos in connection with transactions and annual reviews, by:

  1. Performing financial analysis including stress testing assets and projections alongside peer comparisons
  2. Assessing creditworthiness of clients and recommending appropriate credit ratings
  3. Evaluating the quality of collateral pledged through cash flow analysis or stress testing
  4. Describing the structure and terms of a deal or trading product by analyzing related risk metrics

  • Participating in client diligence meetings with senior management
  • Liaising with business partners and middle office teams to ensure timely processing of transactions and annual reviews in the credit systems
  • Monitoring, investigating and escalating risk metrics associated with client activity
  • Preparing and presenting periodic portfolio reviews to senior credit executives and business partners
  • Leading ad hoc team projects

Qualifications and key requirements

  • Minimum education required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • Genuine interest in the financial markets
  • Proven academic performance and an ability to demonstrate solid numerical and analytical skills
  • As business is primarily conducted in English, verbal and written fluency in English is essential.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise reports and opinions
  • Ability to develop relationships with clients, product specialists and credit executives, and to partner with them effectively
  • Strong negotiation skills, ability to think laterally and use commercial acumen to develop business-oriented solutions
  • Capability to multi-task and work under pressure
  • Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word software
