The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.

 

State Law Team for the Home Lending Regulatory Legal Group:

The primary function of the State Law Team in Home Lending’s Regulatory Legal Group is to provide transactional, regulatory and strategic legal support for all aspects of state laws affecting the various areas within Home Lending such as: origination, servicing, default servicing and collection of mortgage and home equity loans. More specifically, some of the legal support that the State Law Team provides will be in the following areas:

  • Address questions from business representatives and compliance professionals regarding state and local legal issues and performing legal research as needed
  • Monitor and analyze legal and regulatory changes that will impact Home Lending
  • Work with Home Lending Compliance to implement and comply with applicable state legal requirements
  • Work with central legal teams and Home Lending Compliance to identify and implement regulatory changes to legal repositories, systems, policies and procedures
  • Review policies, procedures, job aids and documentation related to proposed product, system and other changes, to identify, escalate and research state legal issues
  • Assist Chase Government Relations in analyzing proposed changes to existing state and local laws, determining impacts of proposed legislation, and developing Chase's corporate position with regard to such items
 Job Responsibilities
 

This position is  in an environment that is dynamic and fast-paced, often requiring that issues be researched and addressed quickly to ensure the firm stays in in compliance with the rapidly-evolving regulatory environment that apply to our highly regulated industry.

 

The job will be located in Tampa Florida as part of Home Lending’s Regulatory Legal Group – State Law Team, and be responsible for:

  • Providing support for the State Law attorneys who support Home Lending with a particular emphasis on state legislative monitoring and state law research
  • Helping to ensure compliance with all applicable state laws impacting Home Lending
  • Routinely conducting legal research related to the state legislative and regulatory process, state statutes, and case law
  • Assisting the State Law attorneys in tracking, monitoring, summarizing, and reporting on legal requirements and changes to existing law
  • Preparing and maintaining matrices and other job aids, summarizing legal requirements for quick reference by business staff
  • Maintaining policies, procedures, job aids and documentation related to the daily operations of the State Law Team
  • Providing support for other matter or special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ten years of paralegal experience with a mortgage company, bank or law firm
  • Extensive knowledge of laws impacting mortgage banking
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with attorneys, and other business and compliance professionals
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent legal research skills and experience with Lexis
  • Competence with the suite of Microsoft Office products especially Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High level of dependability
  • Prior experience in financial services regulation, particularly with regard to state regulation of mortgage and home equity loans preferred
  • Knowledge of state legislative and regulatory process preferred
  • Paralegal certification or bachelor’s degree
